LaMelo Ball has agreed to a five-year, $260 million contract extension with the Charlotte Hornets, keeping him in Charlotte through the 2028-29 season. Per The Athletic’s Shams Charania, league sources said that ‘Ball was eligible for a rookie-scale contract extension, and he got the full max to remain with the Hornets for the long haul.’

The 21-year-old Ball only played 23 games last season, but is considered one of the best guards in the league, averaging a career-high 23.3 points, with 8.4 assists and 6.4 rebounds a game last season, and shooting 41.1 percent from the field and 37.6 percent from 3 before missing the majority of the season with a fractured ankle. In the three seasons since entering the league, Ball has been named Rookie of the Year and earned an All-Star spot during his second year in the league. Aside from the ankle fracture this past season, Ball also missed 20 games in his rookie season due to a fractured wrist
