SPRINGFIELD – Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White announced during National Teen Driver Safety Week that teen driver deaths are down 74% since 2007.
“The goal has always been to save lives,” White said. “While our graduated driver licensing program is working as intended with teen driving deaths decreasing, there is still more work to be done.”
In 2019, just 41 teens were killed in traffic crashes, according to IDOT. In 2007, the year before White’s stronger laws took effect, 155 teens were killed in crashes. To learn more about the state’s graduated license program, visit www.cyberdriveillinois.com.
